Jean Stanley

Jean Stanley, MT(ASCP)SBB, CQA(ASQ), is a licensed medical technologist who brings over 25 years work experience in health care, 20 of which have been in immunohematology and transfusion medicine.  Jean has held positions both on the bench as a blood bank specialist and supervisor and in management as director of technical services.  Jean most recently was the director of operations at the Stanford Medical School Blood Center where she oversaw the daily operations of a full service blood center.

While at Stanford Blood Center, Jean was introduced to Lean manufacturing as a member of the original team which focused on an implementation in the testing and component laboratories and designed the new collection and testing facility incorporating lean design techniques.  Since then, Jean has championed the continuing lean journey throughout the blood center, including telerecruitment, whole blood and automated collections, mobile operations and the materials management department. 

Jean earned her bachelors of science degree in biological science at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, followed by an internship in medical technology at Kaiser Permanente Hospital in Oakland, California.  Jean found that immunohematology was her area of interest in the laboratory, taking her to another internship at the Irwin Memorial Blood Center in San Francisco and subsequently her Specialist in Blood Bank certification.  In addition to her technical expertise, Jean has continued her knowledge and experience in quality assurance, receiving her quality auditor certification.  Jean was the first non-physician selected as an area chair for the AABB Accreditation program, and continues to serve as an assessor.  Jean is active in state and national associations, serving on several committees, board of directors, and most recently was president of the California Blood Bank Society.  In addition to being a speaker and presenting abstracts at meetings, Jean has authored chapters in technical books and written several articles.
